City Council Meeting FAQs

 

Question:
When & where are City Council agendas posted for the public?
Answer:
City Council agendas are approved on the Friday preceding the Tuesday City Council meeting.  After this approval process the agenda will then be, along with posting on our website, posted in the lobby of City Hall and outside the main front doors.  We also provide a subscription service that you can register with to have the latest agendas and minutes emailed to you.

  

Question:  
How often are City Council meetings held?
Answer:
City Council meetings are held on the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6 pm and on the second Tuesday of each month at 3 pm.  If a Tuesday happens to be a holiday, city election or primary/general election, the meeting would then be held the following Wednesday. 

 

Question:
Can I get copies of previous agendas and minutes?
Answer:
Yes you can. You can obtain copies by contacting the City Clerk's Department at 888-4433 or by clicking on Searchable Documents through the City of Meridian website.

  

Question:  
Can I testify at a Public Hearing?
Answer:
Yes.  The hearing process is designed to alert City leaders to public concerns.  You can ask questions and/or testify either in favor of or in opposition to the project.  If you decide to speak you will have three minutes to do so.  Click here for suggestions that might be helpful as you prepare to share your opinion.

  

Question:
My neighbor received a notice of a Public Hearing from the City of Meridian regarding a change to a property next to our subdivision, why didn't I receive a notice also? 
Answer:
Public Hearing notices are sent to property owners or purchasers of record (as listed in the current records of the Ada County assessor) owning property within three hundred feet (300') of the property being considered.  This noticing is extended to property owners within one thousand feet (1,000') of the external property boundaries if the application involves heavy industries and/or wireless communication facilities.

   

Question:  
My son's boy scout troop would like to attend a City Council Meeting, can they just show up for the meeting?
Answer:  
Yes they can, all meetings by City Council are open for anyone to attend.  If they wish, they can contact the City Clerk's Department prior to the hearing and the City Clerk can arrange for the troop to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The City Clerk's Department can be reached at 888-4433. 

   

Question:
I am hard-of-hearing, does the City of Meridian have the means to accommodate me during a meeting?
Answer:
Yes we do.  Assistive listening devices are available by contacting the City Clerk's Department at least 24 hours in advance of a city meeting.
